RIP | Veteran football journalist Coudjoe Amankwaa passes away!

The African football fraternity has been hit hard by the sudden passing away of veteran journalist Coudjoe Amankwaa.

According to the South African Football Association (SAFA) media man Dominic Chimhavi, Amankwaa passed away on Friday night.

Chimhavi said Amankwaa was rushed to hospital by his family when he couldn’t wake up for supper on Friday.

And upon his arrival at an unnamed hospital, Amankwaa was declared dead by the medics, said Chimhavi.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m writing this with a heavy heart,” said Chimhavi.

“Our friend, colleague and seasoned journalist Coudjoe Amankwaa has suddenly passed away this evening (Friday).

“His wife phoned me a few minutes ago that they rushed him to hospital when he couldn’t wake up for supper and upon arrival at the hospital, [he] was declared dead,” added Chimhavi.

Amankwa was renowned for his hard-hitting football analysis on SABC Sport for Television and Radio.

Prior to his sudden death, Amankwaa was working as an analyst, a researcher and a scriptwriter for the SABC.

His colleagues at SABC Sport, Christoph Bongo and Andile Ncube were among those who paid tribute to the fallen football journalist.

The South African sends its heartfelt condolences to the Amankwaa family, his colleagues at the SABC, and everyone who knew the late Coudjoe.
