Powerball: ONE lucky player just won ‘one of the highest-ever jackpots’

Somewhere out there, one lucky South African will be waking up almost R160 million richer, after just a solitary ticket matched the five drawn numbers and the Powerball itself on Tuesday. Following a multitude of rollovers, the jackpot became one of the highest-ever prizes offered in Mzansi – and the spoils now belong to a single individual.

Powerball results and numbers for Tuesday 27 July

The set of winning numbers were declared on Tuesday evening. Furthermore, the Powerball Plus draw was also offering a pretty tidy jackpot, with just under R18 million up for grabs. That was also won by one ticket only…

And the winner is…

The lucky winner now has a maximum of one year to come forward and claim their prize. If the money isn’t collected within 365 days, it gets sent on to charity. Whoever our latest ‘overnight multi-millionaire’ is, they came very close to splitting the cash: Three people matched all five Powerball numbers, but didn’t pick the correct Powerball itself.

Still, the trio that got within touching distance of sharing the jackpot will, at least, be rewarded with R241 555 for their efforts – and let’s be honest, that’s not a bad night’s work, is it? A further 42 people managed to name four of the five initial numbers drawn, while also successfully choosing #14 as the Powerball. They’ll have to settle for R10 804 each.

What is the biggest ever Powerball jackpot?

There was talk of last night’s jackpot being ‘the biggest-ever in South Africa’. However, this just isn’t true. Of course, it is right up there, but falls short of the official record by R70 million, after one player scooped a R232 million jackpot in February 2019. For the next Powerball draw on Friday 30 July, you’ll be playing for R6 million. Bit of a comedown…
