(Picture): Reported Kaizer Chiefs target pictured in the country, fans predictably sent wild

Reported Kaizer Chiefs target Bongani Zungu posted a picture of himself outside a Nedbank atm on Monday night, an image that has predictably sent the Amakhosi faithful wild under the comments section.

Zungu is back in the country enjoying his holiday after helping Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers win their first top flight title in over a decade last season. Zungu was only on loan at the club and after Rangers confirmed he wouldn’t return it is believed Chiefs are interested in bringing him back to the country.

Zungu didn’t have the best of times at Rangers

The Bafana Bafana international’s stint at Rangers was far from perfect. Although he left a league winner, he also left with a “bad boy” image and reputation as Zungu controversially broke club Covid-19 protocols by going out clubbing with some of the clubs Academy players. That image doesn’t seem to have deterred Chiefs however.

Rangers went as far as suspending Zungu, with coach Steven Gerrard initially coming out saying he doubts Zungu will play for the club again. His stance would change soon though, and the lanky star was soon allowed back into the first team fold. He continued to struggle for game time however, which might be the main aspect why his deal wasn’t turned into a permanent deal.

Amiens open to selling

Upon his French Ligue 2 side Amiens confirming his return, there were also reports that they were willing to listen to offers for Zungu. Chiefs are one of the DStv Premiership sides that are credited with a huge interest in the silky holding midfielder’s signature but it remains to be seen whether or not the Phefeni Glamour Boys would be able to fork out the reported R50 million it would take to prize Zungu away from Amiens where he has a year left on his contract.

Chiefs’ big announcement pending

Before Chiefs contested the CAF Champions League final, it was widely reported that they had already wrapped up a marquee signing which they were keeping under wraps until their season had been conceded. According to the same reports, the player should be announced any time from now and with many split over it either being Keagan Dolly or Zungu.

Dolly was also signed to a French club, where he plied his trade at Ligue 1 side Montpellier. His struggles for game time have largely seen him linked with a return to the club, with Chiefs mooted as his likely destination. His representative have, like Zungu’s given indications that the skillful winger would be more open to continuing his European venture before a premature return to the country.

Could CBD reunite at Chiefs?

Both Zungu and Dolly played a huge part in the success of Manuel Sundowns and maybe the idea of reuniting with their other brothers of destruction in Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro at Chiefs may appeal to the duo or at least one of the two players.

The image that Zungu posted on his official Twitter account only served to heighten those rumours, with some Chiefs fans already attempting to join the dots.

Although it looks like an innocent picture of a man back home, it remains to be seen if there are any correlations between Chiefs’ predicted big announcement and the return of Zungu to the country, although it seems unlikely at the moment.
