Usuthu have been back at pre-season training for two weeks without McCarthy being present and this predictably led to media speculation that it was due to a bonus owed to him for finishing second in last season’s DStv Premiership.
In an interview with The Sowetan, Zungu shot down any ‘bonus owed speculation’ by confirming it was pre-planned when Benni McCarthy would return the South Africa.

“He is back in the country and he is back with the team,” Zungu explained.
“I don’t understand what the issue is because he was always scheduled to come back today [Monday]. I don’t know why people are saying that … that’s nonsense, absolute nonsense.
“He is training with the team now. It was always our agreement,” Zungu added.
AmaZulu will represent South Africa along with DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns in next season’s CAF Champions League.
