Kaizer Chiefs‘ class of 2020/21 have etched their names into Amakhosi’s record books after reaching a historic first ever CAF Champions League final!

AS IT HAPPENED | KAIZER CHIEFS V WYDAD ATHLETIC CLUB

Carrying a priceless away goal – thanks to a 1-0 win in Casablanca – into the the second leg at the FNB Stadium, a draw of any scoreline was the least Kaizer Chiefs needed to progress to the tournament’s final.

And that’s exactly what they got after 90 minutes – a 0-0 stalemate.

While it may not have been pretty, it was pretty effective for a team who suffered several late blows when unnamed members of the team and management were ruled out of the match having had contact with people who were Covid-19 positive.

While no names were mentioned, one can only assume one of those affected by the forced isolation was last week’s man of the match, goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma, who was “dropped” from the match-day squad altogether.

In addition, Kaizer Chiefs only named five substitutes.

Nevertheless, it was good enough to see them into the final against either Egypt’s Al Ahly or Esperance Tunis of Tunisia.

That final is scheduled for Saturday, 17 July in Casablanca.
