Kaizer Chiefs news: Former star questions decision to sack Gavin Hunt
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Jabulani Mendu feels Amakhosi’s decision to sack coach Gavin Hunt goes beyond just the results on the pitch.

The Soweto giants axed Hunt last week despite appointing him on a three-year contract before the start of the season.
Although Kaizer Chiefs have struggled in the league, currently sitting 11th in the standings, they reached the CAF Champions League semi-finals to be played later this month.

Mendu believes that disagreements in boardroom is what led to the sacking of the former Bidvest Wits mentor.
Speaking to Kickoff, Mendu said: “I don’t think it was a good decision to release Hunt. I think it was a business decision, it’s got nothing to do with football.
“If it had something to do with football, we could have acknowledged the fact that Chiefs is in the semi-final of the Champions League, and there was a high possibility that Gavin would have played against Pitso Mosimane in the final.
“How do you chase away a coach who has just taken your team to the Champions League semi-final? Yes, he had a bad spell in league, but we all know what happened.”

One of the reasons given for Hunt’s struggles in the league this campaign is that Kaizer Chiefs were banned from making any transfers due to a FIFA sanction.
Mendu insists though that Hunt is a serial winner and would have eventually made Amakhosi successful.
He added: “I mean, how are you [as a player] going to play for someone you know doesn’t want you? Because Gavin made it clear on his arrival that he wants to release half of the players.
“Those players knew he wanted them gone, so do you think they were going to play for him?
“And secondly, what did Chiefs do to help the situation or to help Gavin Hunt? Listen, as coaches, we know we get hired to get fired but having said that, what did Chiefs do to help the situation?
“Let’s not run away from the fact that Gavin Hunt is a serial winner. He’s second to Pitso Mosimane in South Africa. So, all of a sudden, he’s a bad coach? Wits won their first-ever league title because of Gavin Hunt.”
