Done deal: Kaizer Chiefs set to announce signing of Njabulo Ngcobo
Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly put an end to the Njabulo Ngcobo saga by agreeing terms with Swallows FC and the player on a three-year deal with an announcement set for “within the next week”.
Ngcobo had been the subject of some intense interest from both giants Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in what seemed like a protracted two-horse transfer battle for the lanky centre back’s services.
Chiefs were thought to have wrapped Ngcobo deal up
Earlier in the year, Chiefs’ interest in Ngcobo was no secret, with that interest then going on to becoming reports of a “done deal”, with some publications already going as far as saying he had signed a three-year deal with Amakhosi.
Swallows chairman denied sale rumours
Those reports proved to be premature , however, as the Swallows FC chairperson David Mogashoa came out to set the record straight by vehemently denying that he has sold Ngcobo and that Chiefs nor any other club had not yet come forward with an offer for his services.
Ngcobo’s price went up
Ngcobo then went on to win the DStv Premiership Defender of the Season award, before topping off a stellar breakthrough campaign with a Bafana Bafana call up. That then prompted Mogashoa to come out waxing lyrical about the players new proposed transfer fee after all his achievements in the previous season, stating that Chiefs or any other interested party would have to come out and pay more for Ngcobo’ services as his price had gone up.
Sundowns were then thought to be in the lead
That statement may have given Sundowns an advantage, with them known not to fear digging deep into their pockets to acquire a player’s services. It seemed like this would also be the case for Ngcobo, as reports had then started to emerge that Sundowns had established direct dialogue with Swallows and were preparing to outbid Chiefs for the defender’s signature.

The saga would continue, but only this time a twist seemed to favour Chiefs, with claims that Ngcobo was spotted at Naturena together with other reported Chiefs signing for the new season, as they allegedly received pre-season training programs. This was taken as a hint that Ngcobo’s move to the glamour boys was done.
Mogashoa again denied selling the player
Mogashoa then came out to deny having any agreement nor offer from Chiefs at that point and reiterated that Ngcobo was still a Swallows player.
