‘Totally cliff-faced’: Drunk KZN man rescued after falling from mountainside

This guy is going to get an absolute roasting the next time he meets up for drinks with the boys: A 58-year-old male from KZN has become an unwitting viral star, after he got so drunk that he FELL OFF A CLIFF – and lived to tell the tale.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the incident on Tuesday morning. They discovered that the drunken Ezindlovini resident had plunged into a pile of vegetation, trapping him in place overnight. Several rescue technicians got to work in freeing the man, who revealed he lost his footing on top of the overhead embankment

Somewhat miraculously, the man did not suffer any serious injuries – but he was transported to hospital by ambulance. His baffling, boozy ordeal has thankfully been resolved, with only bruised pride to report.

Drunk victim rescued by emergency crews

RUSA, who are no strangers to these bizarre and often challenging incidents, have released a statement on the matter. They revealed there was difficulty finding the male on Tuesday, given how dense the bushes were. However, on this occasion, it’s a case of ‘all’s well that ends well’ – and serves a serious reminder that cliffs and liquor DO NOT MIX.

“A 58-year-old man who spent more than 12 hours trapped on a cliff has been rescued. RUSA received a call from a member of the community, requesting assistance for the man in Ezindlovini in Oakford. Reaction Officers and Medics proceeded to the location and on arrival spoke to the male who could only be heard as he was concealed by vegetation.”

“The individual explained that he was injured and was stuck in a bush on the face of the cliff. Rescue Technicians from the SAPS K9 Search & Rescue Unit and Emer-G-Med arrived on scene. He was also assisted by members of the community. It was established the man was consuming alcohol when he slipped, while walking on an embankment.”
