City were firm favourites having finished over 19 points above fourth-placed Chelsea. The Blues from London turned the city of Manchester blue and not the way they had hoped. Fans of ‘The Citizens‘ were left gutted after yet another stumble in the Champions League.

It was once again a case of so close yet so far for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Chelsea went on to upset the odds and shock the football world with a 1-0 victory, conquering City and Europe in the process. Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea booked into the history books forever.

History was made throughout the final, here are three things that were added to the history books last night.

FIRST-EVER CLASH IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

City and Chelsea had never met in the Champions League until last night. They had played each other 168 times without ever meeting in Europe.

Last night was the 169th tie between them. A historic first clash in Europe against each other.

Chelsea and City affirmed the dominance of English sides in the Champions League this season. An all-English final, just two seasons after the last one when Liverpool took on Tottenham in 2019.

TUCHEL’S TWO FINALS WITH TWO TEAMS BACK-TO-BACK

Tuchel became the first coach in the Champions League to lead two different teams to the final in successive seasons.

The German boss led PSG to the 2020 Champions League final against Bayern Munich. Last night he took Chelsea to the final and one step further as they were crowned the 2021 Champions League champions. Two different teams in back-to-back finals. Tuchel was the first man to achieve this feat, going in the history books forever.

CHRISTIAN PULISIC BECOMES THE FIRST AMERICAN TO PLAY IN THE FINAL

When Pulisic took to the field in the second half he became the first American to do so.

The first American-born player to ever play in a Champions League final. The United States of America would have stood in jubilation and rejoiced.

A huge moment for their player and nation. They finally have a Champions League finalist. Pulisic almost made the whole of the USA and London erupt, coming within inches of scoring the goal that would have put the tie to bed.

This meant very little though as he went on to be the first and only American to win a Champions League gold medal.
