Revealed: The NINE most wanted criminals on South Africa’s ‘red list’

A spate of foreign nationals and several homegrown fugitives now appear on South Africa’s ‘Interpol red list’, after a NINTH person was added to the infamous wall of shame this week. Emilie Djoumessi finds herself alongside some of the most wanted criminals in Mzansi – who have perpetrated acts of violence and brutality on our shores.

What is the Interpol red list?

Finding yourself on the red list is as clear a sign as any that you are screwed – once the police catch up. Having your name plastered on Interpol’s database means that any law enforcement agency in the world can arrest you, regardless of where you’ve fled to. The system allows for fugitives to be extradited back to South Africa, to face trial here.

“Red Notices are issued for fugitives wanted for prosecution or to serve a sentence. A Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.”
