Orlando Pirates latest | Will Bucs reignite interest in Gavin Hunt?

Gavin Hunt is a free agent after his contract with Kaizer Chiefs was terminated on Friday following a string of poor results in the league.

Zinnbauer, who has been with Pirates since December 2019, isn’t popular among a section of Pirates fans after the team’s failure to mount a serious challenge in the PSL title race this season.

His tactics and team selection are often questionable, and while he won the MTN8 with the club, some fans still feel Zinnbauer should leave Pirates.

Those who want Zinnbauer gone have already planned a march to the Orlando Stadium to submit their memorandum of demands – and top of the agenda is the sacking of the German coach.

It is unclear, at this stage, if Zinnbauer has the backing of the Pirates management given the silverware he delivered in December 2020.

However, TheSouthAfrican.com has it on good authority that Pirates wanted to sack Zinnbauer when Hunt became available at the end of last season.

Hunt was their preferred candidate to replace Zinnbauer at the time, but the 56-year-old former SuperSport United mentor chose Chiefs over Pirates.

Furthermore, Pirates offered Hunt a better salary package than Chiefs but he still turned them down for a move to Naturena.

Now, the big question is whether or not the Buccaneers will reignite their interest in Hunt now that his tenure at Chiefs has come to an end.
