According to reports in the Indian media, the Delhi Capitals speedster returned the positive test while in his mandatory seven-day quarantine period upon arriving in India after taking part in the ODI series against Pakistan.

The 27-year-old Nortje was one of the standout performers for the Capitals last year, picking up 22 wickets from 16 matches after only coming in as a replacement for England’s Chris Woakes.

Anrich Nortje, along with fellow South African paceman Kagiso Rabada, missed Delhi’s opening game – a win over CSK – because he was in quarantine but will now spend more time on the sidelines.

The BCCI rule says a player that tests positive for Covid-19 must isolate in the designated area outside the bio-secure environment for a minimum of 10 days from the first day of symptoms or the date of collection of the sample which resulted in a positive RT-PCR report, whichever is earlier.

Delhi Capitals’ next game is on Wednesday when they take on Rajasthan Royals.
