Police ‘distance’ themselves from Mbuyiseni Ndlozi rape claim

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng has denied reports that Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is being investigated for rape.

According to Daily Sun, the 23-year-old woman told police she was raped by Ndlozi at a Sandton penthouse, where she had been invited by friends for a party.

Police have since confirmed that a rape case has been opened but stressed that Ndlozi is not a suspect.

“We can confirm that the case of rape that is in reference was indeed opened and is under investigation. While police are not at liberty to disclose or confirm identities of victims/complainants and suspects, we can confirm that Dr Ndlozi is not a suspect in this case,” said SAPS spokesperson Mathapelo Peters.

Journalist behind Mbuyiseni Ndlozi rape story did not reach out to police

Police further said that the journalist who wrote the story on Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, failed to get comment from the Gauteng Provincial Head of Corporate Communication, despite being advised to do so.

“…Amos Mananyetso went ahead and published his story, based on, according to the article, the victim’s statement, a legal and confidential document that can only have been obtained through unlawful and unethical means”

Further detailing the rape claim against Ndlozi, Daily Sun alleged that the place where the party was taking place then closed and they stayed there well into the wee hours.

According to the alleged victim, a man only identified as Quinton, walked into the penthouse. She then interacted with him and they started drinking together. At some point, she felt dizzy and went to go lie inside one of the bedrooms.

The lady is then quoted in her statement as remembering this “Quinton” enter the bedroom to ask if she is okay. She then blacked out and when she woke up, she was naked and Quinton was on top of her.

She then later found out that Quiton was in fact Ndlozi’s middle name.

At the same time, the EFF is far from fazed by the rape allegation, with leader Julius Malema seemingly standing by Ndlozi – all this expressed in a tweet.

“The Devil is a liar,” Malema said as a caption to a picture of both him and Ndlozi.
