Liam Messam answers SOS call from injury-hit Chiefs

Former All Black and Chiefs co-captain Liam Messam and Taranaki loose forward Tom Florence have been called in to the Chiefs squad as late injury replacements.

37-year-old Liam Messam, who last played for the Chiefs in 2018, and Florence have been called into the Hamilton-based outfit’s squad following season ending injuries to back-rowers Kaylum Boshier, Mitchell Karpik and Simon Parker.

Boshier sustained a shoulder injury during the Chiefs match against the Hurricanes last weekend in Hamilton.

Following scans, it has been confirmed he requires shoulder stabilisation surgery. His expected recovery time is six months.

Karpik sustained a knee injury during training last week. Following further assessment and scans it has been confirmed he will require arthroscopic knee surgery. His expected recovery time is two to three months.

Parker has had foot surgery for a plantar plate repair. He had his operation on Thursday 15 April and his expected recovery time is six months.
