Kaizer Chiefs showed they can still perform on the big stage – Tovey

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Neil Tovey was impressed with how Gavin Hunt’s men performed against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.

And for Tovey, the overall performance showed that Amakhosi still have what it takes to be among the top clubs in the country.

Furthermore, Tovey feels the 2-1 win over Sundowns was a morale-booster, especially ahead of the CAF Champions League knockout stage draw this week.

Tovey expects the CAF Champions League knockout stages to be tough for Chiefs but he believes they have to do the right things to get past the quarter-final stage.

“It’s going to be a tall order, but when it gets to the knockout stages you start doing things in your mind that translates to the pitch,” Tovey told the Amakhosi website.

“Beating Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend was a big morale-boosting win for the club ahead of the CAF Champions League draw this week.”

“It shows the club can still do it and perform on the big stage,” he added.

The Amakhosi legend further sent a message to the club and the players, saying they must enjoy the experience but warned that their concentration levels need to be up to the required standard.

“So, my message to the club and to the players is, go out and enjoy the occasion and the experience.

“Their concentration levels need to be top, top, top, but they need to go out there and do what they know they’re good at and anything is possible,” added Tovey.

Chiefs welcome Chippa United in what will be their 24th league game on Wednesday.

Kick-off at the FNB Stadium is at 3PM.
