DUT first time students can still register online this week
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has announced that the deadline for online registration for first time applicants and returning students has been extended to Friday16 April 2021.
DUT senior director of corporate affairs, Alan Khan said in a statement that remote, online learning for first time enrolling (FTEN) students will commence on Monday, 12 April 2021.
“This will ensure that the academic programme can successfully conclude within this calendar year. It needs to be noted that the majority of FTEN students have already registered. As previously announced, returning students commenced with their remote, online learning on 29 March 2021,” Khan said.
DUT campuses to remain closed to students
Khan said the the closure of the five Durban campuses, especially for students, would continue until further notice.
“This will allow the University to consider and assess many pre-requisites for re-opening and for allowing students, albeit in a restricted way still, to return to campus. The online functions and activities of the University, including online teaching and learning for returning students and unassisted off-campus online registration, have continued as planned,” Khan said.
“The university reiterates that walk-in applications will not be allowed.”
He added that all first time applicants who may be experiencing challenges related to online registration should report the problem to the university’s student admissions department via WhatsApp, using one of these numbers: 0834451282, 0834460459, 0834541495, 0834543477, 0834516751 or 0834413766. Online registration information is also available on the DUT website.
DUT has been rocked by protests after students allegedly battled to register for their studies due to problems with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) communicating its funding allocations with the university, among other issues. A group of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and SA National Congress of Students (SANCO) members also clashed violently outside the university earlier last month.
