Al Ahly to begin construction on mega new stadium
Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib has revealed the starting date for the construction of the new club stadium at El-Sheikh Zayed city in Cairo.

One of El-Khatib’s first promises to Al Ahly supporters after his 2017 election was the construction of the first independent stadium for the club.
When he announced the project El-Khatib confirmed that the stadium will have 60 000 seats, which would make it the third largest stadium in Egypt after Borg El-Arab (86 000) and the Cairo International Stadium (74 100).

It is set to be designed by Populous, the same architecture company that designed Arsenal’s stadium The Emirates and Wembley Stadium.
In their latest statement where they confirmed the governmental approval for the project, Al Ahly didn’t reveal any further details, other than they will lay the foundation stone on Saturday, 1 May.

As they await the completion of their brand new stadium, Al Ahly will continue playing their home matches at the Al Ahly WE Stadium.
Al Ahly bought the stadium in 2019 until 2045 as part of the club’s “2045 vision”.
