Airlink spreads its wings with regional routes, more flights

The skies are opening up again with the demand for air travel picking up on several regional routes and Airlink has started operating routes that have not been served for many months.

With numerous southern African countries being off-limits since last year due to national lockdowns and border closures, airlines were forced to halt flights to regional destinations.

Airlink however has begun rebuilding its regional network by starting up flights to various destinations outside South Africa’s borders in March. The airline announced in a statement this week that it will start up several more routes as of from May.

On 29 March, Airlink resumed flights between Johannesburg and Maseru (Lesotho) and it started flying between Johannesburg and Kasane (Botswana) on 2 April, offering four flights per week on the route

The airline will add additional frequencies on the Cape Town to Walvis Bay (Namibia) route from 1 May, as well as resume flights between Nelspruit and Livingstone (Zambia). Airlink is also reintroducing direct flights between Cape Town and the Victoria Falls, in Zimbabwe, on 3 May.

AFRICA’S SECOND-LARGEST AIRLINE

Airlink severed ties with South Africa’s national carrier, South African Airways (SAA), in 2020.

The independent airline boasts fresh branding since becoming the second-largest airline on the African continent according to the number of seats offered by airlines on the African continent.  Ethiopian Airlines takes the top spot.
