Netball World Cup 2023: First fundings allocated
In anticipation of the Netball World Cup 2023 set to take place in Cape Town, Anroux Marais, Western Cape Provincial Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, has officially presented ceremonial cheques to selected municipalities to upgrade their netball facilities.
The following municipalities will receive funding from the 2020/21 financial year’s budget:
– The Hessequa Municipality in the Garden Route has been allocated R600 000 to upgrade the Riversdale Stadium;
– The Knysna Municipality will receive R600 000 for the modernisation of the Katara sports facility;
– The Overberg District’s Swellendam Municipality has been allocated R600 000 for the Powell and Kelly Sportsground;
– The Cape Agulhas Municipality will receive R800 000 to renovate the Bredasdorp facility’s lighting and netball courts’ surfaces.
These netball facilities were identified as needing an upgrade after discussions between the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Sport and the Western Cape Netball Federation.
The allocated funds form part of R8 million assigned to the netball facility legacy programme.
Meanwhile, netball facilities in Langeberg and Saldanha Bay will be included in the funding programme later in March.
The 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town will be the 16th such tournament and will mark the first time this premier tournament takes place in Africa.
All matches at the tournament will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
Broadcast schedules and fixtures will be announced closer to the time.
