Sikelelwa Sishuba, the widow of Menzi Ngubane has penned an emotional letter to him, in which she expresses her love and gratitude for entering her life.
Sishuba’s letter was read out to mourners by her sister, during Ngubane’s funeral service, which was held at his hometown of Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, 20 March 2021.
“We met in 2004 at SABC, we dated, life happened and we parted ways. In 2013 May you walked into my office, I couldn’t believe that after all these years we will ever cross paths again, but God had his plans,” part of the letter reads.
“It was the beginning of our lives together. The most important, the happiest years of my life. Thank you for loving me, you made me feel so special. You have set the bar so high no man will be able to reach it. I am broken and it will take time to go back, I doubt I will ever be the same again”
The veteran screen actor died after suffering a stroke on Saturday, 13 March 2021. He was 56 years-old. Ngubane was laid to rest on the same day as his father who died just days after his son. He (Menzi Ngubane) also leaves behind two daughters.
Ngubane has been gracing South African screens ever since the late 1980s, featuring prominently in TV dramas like Yizo Yizo, Isibaya and Generations.
While Menzi Ngubane boasts an impressive work history, many South Africans remember him for his role as the ruthless businessman Sibusiso Dhlomo on the hit soapie Generations.
Nathi Mthetwa: ‘Menzi Ngubane was one of our finest talents’
Arts, Culture and Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa also paid tribute to Menzi Ngubane, hailing him for his commitment to the craft.
Mthetwa said Ngubane left an everlasting impact in every role he played and inspired so many with his relentless pursuit of excellence, as an actor.
“In Menzi Ngubane, our nation has lost one of its finest talents. The country mourns the loss of an icon, a humble son of the soil, a father, a brother and the quintessential maverick actor. We sympathise with the Ngubane family, who have carried a heavy burden of grief,” the minister said.
