Former Kaizer Chiefs man looks to Junior Khanye to help revive career

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Michael Nkambule is training with Junior Khanye’s Fak’imali Uzobona FC in a bid to revive his flagging career.

Nkambule dispelled rumours that he had retired from the game when contacted by journalists from KickOff.com.

The Attacking midfielder spent some time playing in France with Racing Strasbourg’s B team earlier in his career but hasn’t played regularly since a short spell at Black Leopards in 2012 and 2013.

“I have never quit football. Probably luck was not on my side for people not seeing me playing. I believe now I am in a good space and God will be on my side to get luck and play football again.”

Nkambule said that he hoped Khanye could help him get his career back on track.

“I have almost three years not playing football at the highest level since last played in Thailand. I have been playing in tournaments in Daveyton now and then but now I am back and training full-time,” Nkambule said.

“I am currently training with Junior Khanye’s team just to keep fit. I also do my own individual training to be in good physical condition.”

‘My only crime is that I come from Daveyton’

Nkambule feels that the fact that he is from Daveyton, home to footballing bad boys like Khanye himself, Thabiso ‘Skapie ‘ Malatsi and Jabu ‘Shuffle ‘ Mahlangu, has seen him tarred with the same brush.

“I have never been involved with disciplinary issues with any club I have played for. You can go to Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United or Black Leopards, I have never been called for a meeting or even sent to train with the development side due to disciplinary issues.

“My only crime is that I come from Daveyton. You know the players that came from Daveyton that were always mentioned with wrongs. I think some people judged me because I come from Daveyton.”

At 32-years-old, Nkambule could still enjoy a good few years of top football but it wold require a team being willing to gamble on someone who hasn’t played at an elite level for over three years.

Nkambule made just ten senior appearances for Kaizer Chiefs across two seasons and also failed to establish himself in the SuperSport United and Black Leopards line-ups.
