Ex-Al Ahly defender says Pitso Mosimane better than Rene Weiler

Former Al Ahly centre-back Sherif Abdel-Fadil says current coach Pitso Mosimane is better than his predecessor, Switzerland’s Rene Weiler.

However, he did also highlight mistakes made by Mosimane in their 1-0 defeat to Simba SC in their CAF Champions League in Tanzania last week.

Pitso Mosimane’s overall record since taking over at Al Ahly reads: 26 matches, 20 wins, four draws, two defeats.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor took over last October and guided the Egyptian giants to the treble.

To be fair, however, Mosimane did inherit a team that was excelling with Weiler, having secured the Egyptian Premier League, reached the CAF Champions League semi-finals and were still well in the cup competition.

Abdel-Fadil believes that Mosimane made mistakes against Simba and that Al Ahly’s defeat was surprising, but still stated that the South African is better than Weiler in his opinion.

“Mosimane surprised us by his defensive playing style [against Simba]. Simba players are skilled and pacey,” Abdel-Fadil said.

“Mosimane was wrong to not start with Afsha because he is capable of linking between the lines and would have given the team possession of the ball.”

The former Al Ahly defender concluded by saying that Mosimane is better than Weiler when asked about his personal opinion.

Al Ahly currently sit third in their Group A with three points after two of six matches.
