Rustenburg father in court for kidnapping of his infant twins

A 37-year-old business man is making his first court appearance before the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 15 January, in connection with the kidnapping of his infant twins in late 2020.

KIDNAPPING SUSPECT TRACED TO EVATON TOWNSHIP IN GAUTENG

North West Police Spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says the multi-provincial team worked around the clock and managed to track the twins and the 37-year-old suspect to Evaton township in South Gauteng. It is here that the father was arrested by the Evaton tactical response team in collaboration with members of the Gauteng provincial crime intelligence on Wednesday, 13 January. From here the Rustenburg businessman was transported back to the North West where he is facing a charge of kidnapping.

RUSTENBURG MAN DID NOT DROP-OFF TWINS AT CHILDCARE CENTRE

Mokgwabone says the parents of the twins – who were six months at the time of their abrupt disappearance from Rustenburg on 26 November 2020 – were separated at the time of the incident and living at different residences in the mining city.

Despite the separation an arrangement was introduced by the parents that saw the father dropping off the twins at a local childcare centre in the mornings, whilst the mother would do the pick-up in the afternoons.

On the day of the twins’ disappearance the 37-year-old suspect is reported to have picked up his children, but never dropped them off at the care centre. Numerous attempts to get a hold of him proved to be unsuccessful, and the matter was reported to police for investigation.

The circumstances leading to the kidnapping are not yet known, but it is expected more details will come to light during the court appearance. Mokgwabone says the twins have since been reunited with their mother.

MANHUNT STILL UNDERWAY FOR MISSING FS 14-YEAR OLD BOY

Meanwhile in the Free State, a manhunt to find a 14-year-old boy from Thabong township in Welkom is being intensified. The Teta High School learner – Morena Lentor – was last seen on 21 December 2020.

Free State police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says Lentor’s mother last saw him when she confronted him about a “hubbly bubbly cigarette in his trousers” on the morning of the 21st.

Eyewitnesses last saw him walking by a nearby tuckshop “wearing a long sleeved grey t-shirt, black jeans and Nike tekkie shoes. The case has been transferred to Lejweleputswa Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and is being investigated by Lt Col. Kedibone Gopane” says Makhele.
