‘Uwrongo’ is one of Barack Obama’s favourite songs of 2020
Barack Obama has shared his annual list of top songs in 2020 via a new Spotify playlist – and in a surprising twist – Obama included Prince Kaybee, Shimza, Black Motion and Ami Faku’s Uwrongo.
Obama’s top songs of 2020
Obama, who shared his list of favourite songs on Twitter, said he had some valuable consultation from the family’s music guru, Sasha Obama, to help put it together. The list also includes international favourites like Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé‘s Savage remix, Jhené Aiko‘s Summer 2020, Gunna‘s Sun Came Out and Bob Dylan‘s Goodbye Jimmy Reed.
The former POTUS also gave a mention to Damage by H.E.R., Lemonade by Internet Money and Kyoto by Phoebe Bridgers. Other mentions include top hits from Dua Lipa, Bruce Springsteen, J. Cole and Little Simz.
Other Obama favourites
Elsewhere, Obama has shared his annual list of his favourite films and TV shows watched in 2020.
The former US president took to social media to champion his favourite titles of the year across two categories, giving shoutouts to a number of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video titles.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, featuring Chadwick Boseman’s final performance, leads Obama’s list, which also includes Beanpole, Bacurau, Soul, Nomadland, Lovers Rock and Mank.
About Uwrongo
Uwrongo was also featured on Time Magazine’s 10 Best Songs of 2020 list. It claimed the No 9 spot and is the only African song featured on the list. The news came after the song reached No 1 on a number of South African radio stations when it was released in January 2020. It held the same position for several weeks on Radiomonitor’s South Africa Top 100 chart. It also achieved gold status two months following its release.
It is said that the single has set the tone for what has become one of Prince Kaybee’s biggest years on the global music scene. The musician has enjoyed much success in the past couple of years with hits such as Gugulethu, Banomoya, Club Controller and Fetch Your Life.
