Gavin Hunt identifies No 1 area of concern for Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs’ troubles in the 2020/21 DStv Premiership have received a lot of coverage and are well documented.

KAIZER CHIEFS ARE IN 13TH PLACE

After eight matches this season, the Soweto giants are down in a lowly 13th place in the standings. This after losing out on the 2019/20 title on the final day of the season.

In the interim, Amakhosi gave coach Ernst Middendorp the boot and replaced him with Gavin Hunt.

Hunt’s tenure at the Glamour Boys has got off to a rocky start and at the Christmas break, Chiefs have only a single victory to show for their efforts, along with four draws and three defeats.

That gives Chiefs seven points, already a yawning difference of 11 points to Mamelodi Sundowns who sit atop the log.

Speaking after their most recently match – a 1-1 draw against Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday – Hunt identified one particular area he’d like to see his team improve on as they head into 2021.

GAVIN HUNT WANTS DEFENCE TO IMPROVE

“We’ve got to improve defensively. If you want to come out of a rut, you’ve got to be better defensively,” Hunt said.

“As I always say, rather draw games 0-0 than draw games 2-2. People might say that might be negative, but I don’t think so. I think we need to certainly be a little bit harder to beat.

“Like at this point in time, a team gets a chance, like we’ve had in the last couple of games, and they get the upper hand in the game.”

In their eight matches to date, Chiefs have conceded 11 goals, while only scoring seven. Certainly not the recipe for winning football matches.

CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CLASH NEXT FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

With their league matches complete for 2020, Chiefs do have a 1st leg, 1st round CAF Champions League match against Angolan side CD Primeiro de Agosto on Tuesday, December 22.

Kick-off at the FNB Stadium is at 16:00.

Chiefs’ next DStv Premiership clash is against bottom-placed side Maritzburg United on Saturday, January 9.
