Cape Town crime: Four men, including two teenagers, killed over weekend

It’s been another bloody weekend in Cape Town, with a serious of violent crimes and killings having taken place in some of the metro’s most prominent gang hotspots.

Two teenaged boys, as well as two men, were killed in separate incidents on Saturday 7 November, with the killers involved in three of the murders yet to be apprehended.

two shootings take place on Saturday afternoon

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in the Western Cape, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut, said that officers are hunting those responsible for a shooting in Wallacedene that left a man dead.

“Yesterday at about 17:00, a 29-year-old man was fatally wounded in Takudi Street, Wallacedene, by an unknown suspect who is yet to be arrested. The motive for the killing is yet to be established,” he said.

He said that the spate of shootings continued into the night, when a teenager was killed.

“Last night, at approximately 20.20pm, a 17-year-old man was shot and killed in Greenwood Avenue in Clarke Estate by an unknown suspect who is yet to be arrested.”

‘Girlfriend arrested for stabbing boyfriend to death’

Traut said that the third death to occur on Saturday was allegedly committed by the victim’s own girlfriend in Kalkfontein. The 18-year-old was allegedly stabbed several times.

“Last night, at about 18.50pm an 18-year-old man was stabbed to death in an apparent domestic-related incident in Elizabeth Street in Kalkfontein,” he said.

“The victim’s girlfriend was arrested and she is due to make a court appearance once she is charged.”

Traut added that another man’s killing is being investigated after he was gunned down in Manenberg. “His killers are still at large,” said Traut.

Cape Town crime on the rise

Cape Town and its surrounding communities have been plagued by rampant crime over the past few months, with several high-profile killings having led to the added deployment of law enforcement officers who were seemingly on track to stem the violence when no shootings were reported a fortnight ago.

Crime has continued though, and City representatives and law enforcement officials have called for urgent action to be taken to assist them in keeping communities safe.
