South Africans have woken up to the devastating news of Anele Ngcongca’s death on Monday morning. The 33-year-old was killed in a car crash near Mtunzi, KwaZulu-Natal. However, it seems there is more to this incident than meets the eye, as law enforcement officials revealed that criminal charges are set to be filed in the wake of this horror smash.

The first news reports of Anele Ngcongca’s death emerged just after 9:00. We have since learned this morning:
- The crash was described as a ‘horror scene’ when first responders arrived on Monday.
- Anele Ngcongca was declared dead at the scene, such was the severity of his injuries.
- A crash scene photo (the feature image at the top of this article) has been shared online, showing the extensive damage.
- A case of culpable homicide has been opened, as police revealed that Ngcongca was ‘not driving the vehicle’.
- Mtunzi SAPS also revealed that the driver – who may face a criminal charge – is a female in a critical condition.
- The driver is currently fighting for her life in a nearby hospital.

Who is Anele Ngcongca? Career, clubs, honours…
Anele Ngcongca plied his trade in Europe for most of his career, winning the Belgian League and Cup with Genk. He racked up 300 appearances during spells in Belgium and France, before making a homecoming to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016. He then won the PSL title, Nedbank Cup, and Telkom Knockout, scoring once in 42 appearances.
The hard-working right-back was also a veteran for Bafana Bafana, earning 53 caps for his country. The defender had joined AmaZulu on loan just last week, but sadly, his life was cut short in this tragic accident.
