Senzo Meyiwa: Members of his ‘inner circle’ now linked to murder
A batch of sensational revelations in the Senzo Meyiwa case this week has blown the case wide open – and it now seems like there’s more to come. According to a new team of detectives working on the case, fresh evidence suggests that people close to the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper were involved in his killing.
Detective team ‘link friends of Senzo Meyiwa’ to his killing
As reported by the Sunday Times, the authorities now have the alleged ‘mastermind’ in their sights. The discovery of several incriminating social media messages is set to have a profound impact on the investigation, with at least two people in Meyiwa’s ‘inner circle’ now believed to be behind his murder more than six years ago.
A new team of detectives, led by Colonel Bongani Gininda, was appointed in January by the national police commissioner, General Khehla Sitole. They’ve proved to be steadfast appointments, and earlier this week, we saw five men appear in the dock on suspicion of killing Senzo Meyiwa – despite protesting their innocence in dramatic fashion.
Kelly Khumalo, five suspects, and the new evidence
There was also a shock in store for Kelly Khumalo, after leaked NPA documents revealed that she was effectively a ‘person of interest’ in a case that still has South Africa gripped. The popular musician’s cell phone records and alleged ‘relationship with one of the accused’ are set to be probed by the detectives.
However, new evidence discovered in the past few days is now under intense scrutiny. Some of the messages – exchanged between the suspects and even shared across social media – are set to widen the scope of the investigation. One member of the crack team of cops has stated they have ‘good evidence’ to comprehensively connect these people.
In a week of trials, tribulations, twists and turns, this latest development is also likely to have a major impact on the way Senzo Meyiwa’s killers are brought to justice.
