UK Immigration Webinar

On 10 September 2020, Breytenbachs Immigration Consultants will host a webinar together with some well-known immigration barristers from Goldsmith Chambers on UK Immigration.

The webinar is an ideal opportunity for interested persons to find out more about specific UK immigration topics. The next couple of years will bring considerable changes to the UK’s immigration rules, and we offer clients the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the options available.

The topic of the webinar will be citizenship routes (including double descent, Right of Abode applications, and the Registration of children). We will also be discussing the EU Settlement Scheme, Adult Dependant Relatives applications, touching on appeal procedures, and the future UK immigration landscape.

Join our immigration experts at this webinar where they will share their experiences and tips on dealing with some complex areas of immigration law.

Some of the topics to be discussed

Double descent

Follow the ruling ‘Advocate General for Scotland v Romein [2018] UKSC 6’ which was delivered on the 09 February 2018, if you were born before 01 January 1983 to a British mother, you might now be entitled to become a British citizen.

Right of abode

All British citizens and certain Commonwealth citizens have the Right of abode within the UK. Commonwealth citizens may need to apply for a certificate of entitlement to prove this right, and this process will be discussed in our webinar.

Registration of children

There are various provisions for children under the age of 18 to become British. For example, if you are British and move to the UK, your child may be able to apply for citizenship after three years. Our webinar will discuss all of the possible options.

Adult dependant relatives

Many of us have elderly or dependant relatives residing here in South Africa. If your relative requires long-term care and cannot complete day to day tasks due to illness or disabilities and also cannot afford the level of care they need, they may be able to apply to reside with you within the UK under the ADR route.

EU Settlement Scheme

This scheme allows EU citizens to come and settle in the UK. They have to be in the UK by 31 December 2020 and have till 31 June 2021 to register under the scheme.  One can register under the scheme as pre-settled (if you have been in the UK for less than five years) and settled status (if you have been in the UK for longer than five years).
