SA weather: ‘Disruptive snowfall’ to hit several provinces this week

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has predicted yet another round of snowfall for South Africa in the coming days, just a week after they last gave out a forecast for the white stuff.

Latest SA weather forecast: Where will we get snowfall this week?

The bitterly cold blasts of winter are still lingering in Mzansi, despite the advent of October on the horizon. The aforementioned snowfall is likely to begin on Thursday 1 October, persisting into Friday for some locations.

Strong winds, heavy rainfall and floods are also likely to pose problems for many South Africans, as temperatures begin to plummet within the next 24 to 48 hours. The forecast snow itself has been described as ‘disruptive’.

Snow forecast for South Africa: Three provinces ‘likely to be affected’

Meanwhile, Snow Report has stated that flurries could reach KZN, Free State, and Mpumalanga by the end of the week. Saws remain a little more tentative at this point, however, and suggest that only three provinces will encounter disruptive snowfall: The Western Cape, the Eastern Cape, and the Northern Cape:

“An intense cold front associated with an upper cut-off low-pressure system is expected to affect the Western and Northern Cape Provinces as well as the Eastern Cape from Wednesday evening into Friday morning. The public and small stock farmers are advised that snowfall, strong winds, heavy rain, flooding, and very cold conditions can be expected.”

“Disruptive snowfalls can be expected over the high lying areas of the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape on Thursday evening into Friday. Strong, southernly winds are expected in places over the western interior on Thursday.”
