Moodey Blues: Gauteng DA leader quits, threatens to ‘expose’ party members

If you’re going to quit, make it memorable: That’s what John Moodey has just done on Wednesday, after he sensationally announced he would resign from his position as the DA leader in Gauteng. However, he isn’t going down without a fight.

John Moodey vows to ‘expose’ DA members

The opposition party stalwart has vowed to expose those who are loyal to the ‘Helen Zille faction’ of the DA. He blasted the Blues for forcing Mmusi Maimane out the door last year and claims to have been punished for previously launching a bid to lead the DA ahead of John Steenhuisen.

DA Gauteng leader in sensational resignation

Speaking to the media from his Roodepoort home, Moodey made a series of shocking claims against his employers:

  • John Moodey claims ‘he is facing charges’ for standing up against a senior Parliamentary leader involved in a sex-for-jobs scandal.
  • He also says the party is trying to discipline those who showed support to Mmusi Maimane before he quit the party.
  • Moodey also told the media that “the purge is real”, claiming that he’s been made to feel that the DA ‘is no longer his home’.
  • In perhaps his cattiest comment of the morning, the outgoing provincial leader said that the party is ‘happy being at 20% in the polls’ – an opinion he staunchly opposes.

John Moodey slams DA for ‘trying to create another apartheid regime’

According to John Moodey, an alleged plot to force Mmusi Maimane out of the party made his mind up for him. He then laid into Helen Zille, saying that she and her supporters want to create ‘the next apartheid regime’ in South Africa. Yikes…

“However, problems began when the former federal council chairperson became undermined. The path to congress has pitched black against white in the party. Last year, a campaign was deliberately instituted by individuals to force Mmusi Maimane to step down as leader of the Democratic Alliance. A plot to push him out was put into action.”

“Six of the party’s provincial leaders are facing disciplinary charges for defending Maimane. I am being punished for putting my hat in the ring for the party’s top position… It is ironic that Helen Zille is still in office after her apartheid tweets. I can’t be complacent and be part of a party that wants to be part of the next apartheid regime.”
