Eastern Cape-born songwriter Kimosabe drops surprise EP

Eastern Cape artist, songwriter and producer Siviwe “Kimosabe” Nkanyuza has dropped an EP in his #SoulTember campaign.

The 24-year-old musician released the seven-track EP on Friday, 25 September to wrap up a creative month.

About Kimosabe

Kimosabe taught himself how to use music production software to record and then went on to release underground mixtapes while still in high school in the Eastern Cape.

Kimosabe is a not just a singer, but also a music producer who founded his own company Kimosabe Productions. Through this business, based in Johannesburg, he helps to create and release music.

One of his signings is ThatoFeels, a South African singer-songwriter who is also 24 years old.

Kimosabe’s #SoulTember

Kimosabe launched a #SoulTember campaign where he released a new single every Friday of the month, from Friday 4 to 25 September.

In what you might call a producer’s variation of the traditional triple threat the artist wrote, performed and produced each song himself.

Apple Music’s Soul September

His #SoulTember campaign ran at the same time as Apple Music’s “Soul September” which celebrated R&B and soul music throughout the month.

According to ABC News Radio, each artist curated a playlist based on their favourite soulful R&B songs and musical influences. These collections also include the best new R&B releases and classic albums, music videos and playlists.

Soul September features playlists by Toni Braxton, Teyana Taylor, John Legend and Ari Lennox (signed to J Cole’s Dreamville).

The series for #SoulTember

For the first week of #SoulTember, Kimosabe released Blue Eyes White Dragon.

For the second week he released Bagger Vance.

For the third week he released a double feature with two new songs Pray Tell and Lifeline.

On the last week of the #SoulTember song series, Kimosabe dropped an entire seven-track EP titled DAYZ.
