Franco Marais re-joins Gloucester until the end of the season
English Premiership outfit Gloucester have announced the return of South African hooker Franco Marais for the remainder of the 2019-20 season.
Marais was to join Japanese outfit NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes however he’ll remain with Gloucester until the end of the Premiership campaign.
Marais formed part of Gloucester between 2018 and 2020 after leaving the Sharks. The Vereeniging born 27-year-old hooker made 35 appearances for the club before joining Japanese outfit NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes in July.
Franco Marais back with Gloucester
Gloucester confirmed the immediate return of Marais via an official club statement.
“Gloucester Rugby is pleased to announce that Franco Marais will return to Kingsholm until the end of the season.”
“The 27-year-old hooker has previously made 35 appearances for the Cherry & Whites and he will now look to add to that tally before heading to the Red Hurricanes in the Japanese Top League at the conclusion of the 2019-20 Gallagher Premiership campaign.
“Franco will re-join the squad for training on Monday, as preparations continue for the eagerly anticipated restart.”
Fellow South Africans remaining at the club are Ruan Ackermann and Courne Fourie after coach Johan Ackermann, lock Franco Mostert and prop Ruan Dreyer left the club in the recent past.
Gloucester are currently 9th on the Gallagher English Premiership standings after 13 games. The four-times runners-up have won just four fixtures this campaign and will be hoping for a happy return after the lengthy COVID-19 enforced break with action set to resume on the 15th of August when they travel to Worcester.
