Bafana Bafana striker Lars Veldwijk completes move to Suwon FC

Bafana Bafana striker Lars Veldwijk has completed a move to South Korean division two outfit Suwon FC from K League 1 Champions Jeonbuk FC.

Veldwijk joined South Korean giants Jeonbuk FC from Dutch outfit Sparta Rotterdam in January however the 28-year-old striker opted for a move to the country’s second division in an attempt to secure more game-time.

Lack of game time at Jeonbuk

Veldwijk made a total of 10 appearances for Jeonbuk since joining the seven times league champions however the club have preferred to use the tall striker as an impact-player leaving him with just two starts for the club.

Veldwijk the globetrotter

Suwon FC becomes the 12th club Veldwijk will turn out for since making his professional debut in 2011. The Bafana Bafana international has enjoyed spells in: the Netherlands (FC Voldendam, FC Utrecht, FC Dordrecht, SBV Excelsior, PEC Zwolle, FC Groningen and Sparta Rotterdam), England (Nottingham Forest), Norway (Aalesunds FK) and South Korea (Jeonbuk FC and Suwon FC*).

Bafana Bafana’s target man

Veldwijk will be looking to secure an immediate starting lineup role at Suwon FC with the hope of reigniting the form that saw him breaking into the Bafana Bafana team in 2016. Veldwijk has seven international appearances to his name with five of which coming at the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

It remains to be seen whether Veldwijk’s paperwork will be completed in time for him to make his Suwon debut when they take on Daejeon in a K League 2 fixture on Sunday, July 19.
