Watch: Heavy snowfall bombards parts of the Western Cape
It’s not often we see something that genuinely takes us by surprise anymore. But the amount of snowfall that has hit the Western Cape and its surrounding areas overnight is truly a sight to behold. In fact, flakes were still falling hard as locals awoke to a winter wonderland outside of their doors.
The biting-cold conditions in the south-west have ushered in persistent rain and gale-force winds over the past 24 hours. Cape Town itself is an ice bucket at the moment. But slightly further afield, the falling fluids froze into flurries, as snowfall and plummeting temperatures gripped towns and villages located on the higher ground.

In photos: Cape hit by blizzards and flurries
Around 10-20cm has landed in popular snowfall regions like Ceres, Matroosberg, and the border with the Northern Cape. This cold front is expected to push itself into the Eastern Cape later today, bringing even more snow showers: These photos show just how much of the white stuff has settled on Thursday:
