Seven trends for winter staples that you can shop locally

The change of season calls for new trends, but these fashion staples are items that are timeless for  autumn/winter fashion collections.

Here are seven must-have winter items for your wardrobe. They are all on sale in South Africa and you can shop for them without stepping out of your front door.

1. The fluffy coat

It can be warm, fuzzy and cozy but make it fashionable too! The fluffy coat is a must-have item this season as it aesthetically combines comfort and chic. Shop Brett Robson dropped her winter fashion collection and this fashionable coat made the rack. Shop Nobuhle online on Shop Brett Robson.

2. The puffer jacket

If you prefer puff over fluff, then this item should make its way to your wardrobe. Adventurer Eddie Bauer debuted the puffer way back in 1936. Since then, this practical piece has trended throughout the decades. You can shop this item on popular local clothing stores such as Cotton On or Superbalist.

3. Monochrome lounge wear

Every fashion blogger and influencer has flaunted their athleisure look, but recently lounge wear has been popular on all their Instagram feeds.

Lounge wear can easily be translated to tracksuits, but it is just more chic and fashionable than your regular tracksuit two-piece. Look for sets which come in monochromatic pastel colours such as mauve, lilac, beige and grey. Shop the look on local mom and daughter duo brand @Me_and__b on Instagram.

4. The ‘Boyfriend’ biker jacket

Menswear silhouette fashion items such as blazers and shirts are ideal to achieve the minimalist look. The “boyfriend” biker jacket is a great twist to a regular leather jacket. It also brings the minimalist look into your winter wardrobe. Shop this fashionable jacket online on Superbalist.

5. Turtleneck dress

If you’re not into layering and you just want one outfit that will keep you warm but still looking classy, then the turtle neck dress is for you.

It’s an easy, ready-to-wear, one-item style. Dress your dress up with heels or down with sneakers, ankle boots and everything in between. Well-known local designer Khosi Nkosi included the turtleneck dress in his 2020 winter collection.

6. Pleather bottoms

Faux is fab because animal-cruelty-free fashion is the future. Artificial leather items have made inroads in department and clothing stores across the country and all over the world. Faux leather pants have made their way back, in different cuts but usually with a tight-fitting silhouette. Shop the look on Superbalist or Cotton On.

7. Snake-print boots
