Watch: eNCA anchors apologise for bashing Dlamini-Zuma on the air
South African news broadcaster eNCA is under fire after two of its anchors — Jane Dutton and Xoli Mngambi — took to live television, airing their personal views on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma after she reinforced the cigarette ban.
The pair basically insinuated that the reinforcement of the ban was of her own doing with her own intentions. The pair also mentioned that President Cyril Ramaphosa has been publically emasculated due to Dlamini-Zuma’s actions.

Ramaphosa, while addressing the nation, said the ban on cigarette sales would be lifted come lockdown level 4. Dlamini-Zuma later flipped the switch saying it would not be lifted. This debacle led the eNCA anchors to their judgement call.
Dutton said: “We made a rather unfortunate judgement on the president and the Cogta minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, it was around the debacle on the cigarette ban, singling her out on the decision as if it were her own, was unfair and unwarranted, especially after President Cyril Ramaphosa had provided clarity on the matter.”
Mngambi, on live television on eNCA, said they are providing an apology to the president, to Dlamini-Zuma and to the nation.
The pair, also said they are citizens, with a right to their personal opinions.
#ENCAMUSTFALL TOPS THE TRENDS LIST
eNCA is trending on Twitter on Tuesday 5 May but not in a good way. The hashtag #eNCAMustFall has taken off due to the anchors harsh criticism of the president and the Cogta minister.
“She used her power and considerable influence to ensure the ban on cigarette sales would continue,” said Dutton.
Mngambi on eNCA asked: “Why did she do that? Is it a reminder that the party politics at Luthuli House are still very much at play?”
“Cyril Ramaphosa has been publicly emasculated, we the public have been duped, how can you discard what the president has said just because 2 000 people were against it? It’s the same warped thought process behind the limited exercise regime. If he can’t deal with something like this, how will he deal with the economic challenges and lead the country out of this turbulence?” added Dutton.
Mngambi from the eNCA said the nation is becoming a police state under the control of renegade ministers’ security forces where there is “bullying at the top and bullying at the bottom.” He said Ramaphosa needs to take back his power.
