Lockdown: Treat your skin with a DIY pamper day

We’ve been in lockdown for more than a month now and you are probably missing your favourite treatments from your salon. Maybe you just need something nice to lift up your spirits or perhaps you need something different, fun and light to do? Why not treat yourself to a lockdown spa day.

Take a few hours to pamper yourself. Set up a room with your favourite music, draw the curtain, light some scented candles, brew your favourite tea and sit back and enjoy. Mix up scrubs and masks and take care of your face, body and feet; you will feel like a new person.

Pamper time

Pamper your skin with these scrubs

A good scrub serves to exfoliate your face, removing the dead cells and leaving you with a new, glowing face. It prevents clogging of the pores which might lead to breakouts and encourages the production of collagen. It helps the skin absorb the products you put on better. Try not to use a scrub more than three times a week; there is such a thing as over-exfoliation which might cause skin irritation.

Be careful of the products you put on your face; some products can be too harsh or too rough. You want to treat your face with utmost care and gentleness. Avoid using these scrubs on broken skin and do test the product on the inside of your elbow before trying on your face to check for allergies and reactions.

Facial scrubs

For dry skin:

Mix one tablespoon brown sugar, one tablespoon honey and one tablespoon olive oil. Apply to your face and let it stand for about five minutes. Rinse off, cleanse and moisturise.

For oily skin:

Mix three tablespoons of honey and one tablespoon of ground cinnamon. Apply to your face and leave it for about seven minutes. Rinse off, cleanse and moisturise.

Body scrub

Mix the contents of two green tea bags, one cup of white sugar and 3/4 cup of coconut oil. You can adjust the amount of coconut oil to suit your consistency needs. Use it to scrub your body. Let it sit for five minutes and wash off in warm water.

Foot scrub

Mix two tablespoons of coffee grounds, two tablespoons of sugar and one tablespoon of coconut oil. Apply to your feet and let sit for 20 minutes while you watch an episode of your favourite series or read a chapter of that book or just, simply, daydream. Rinse off and moisturise.
