International fame beckons for Thickleeyonce, Thuso Mbedu and Nasty C
Whether it is a live performance on stage, a post on Instagram or an appearance on TV, all four are a treat to watch. While the world is already singing the praises of Lizzo and Shahidi, Mbedu and ThickLeeyonce have stepped on to the international platform as well.
Thuso Mbedu
When Mbedu announced back in 2019 that she got the lead role in an American series, our country was beaming with pride.
The actress has done that once again, recently sharing on her social media accounts that the prestigious Vogue UK magazine has announced her as one of the eight sensational rising stars.
The actress is living the dream in California after she bagged the lead role in the American series The Underground Railroad which will air on Amazon Prime on a date that is yet to be disclosed.
The series is set in the 19th century and follows two slaves working on a cotton plantation who plan to escape from their lives of slavery.
The melanin beauty easily made us fall in love with her when she landed her first lead role in 2016 in Is’thunzi which resulted in her being nominated for an International Emmy Award.
This, after brief appearances on IsiBaya, Scandal and Snake Park; and with a Golden Horn for Best Actress (2018) under her belt. No doubt she will make the rest of the world fall in love with her as well…
ThickLeeyonce
Last Friday, ThickLeeyonce (real name Lesego Legobane) revealed to her 202 000-plus followers on Twitter that her American agency was able to get her onthe influencer list of Rihanna’s alluring lingerie line, Savage X Fenty.
The model explained in an article published by TimesLIVE that she will receive underwear from the major brand and post pictures of herself in it
“What I love about this deal is that I get to push my message of body positivity.
“Securing the bag is important, but it’s equally important to make sure I live up to what I have been about all these many years,” Thickleeyonce said.
The brand is most loved for the fact that it caters for every single body size, going up to 3X. The brand speaks to and celebrates “fearlessness, confidence and inclusivity”.
Well, those are just half of the words one would use to describe ThickLeeyonce…
Nasty C
Another South African who is making waves abroad is Nasty C (real name Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo). Earlier this year, the lyrical genius signed an exclusive deal with heavy weights Def Jam Recordings.
According to Billboard, the deal was sealed through a joint venture with Universal Music Africa. This just proves that when something is meant to be, it will be.
At the early stage of his career, he was invited to a meeting with the musical company, but the timing proved to be wrong as nothing came out of it at that time.
Furthermore, the 23-year-old is set to make his acting debut in the Netflix series Blood & Water. The “Zulu man with some power” also got involved with the series’ soundtrack.
This is a Netflix original African series and will premiere on Wednesday 20 May 2020.
