Live stream: Ministers to share Level 4 lockdown details on Tuesday
It’s been confirmed on Tuesday that the National Command Council will lift the lid on further details relating to Level 4 of lockdown in South Africa, via a live stream and televised broadcast. Announced five days ago, President Cyril Ramaphosa is looking to relax restrictions in some parts to help revive a stalling economy.
Lockdown latest – what can we expect from the National Command Council?
The briefing is expected to focus on how economic interventions will be implemented going forward. We are also expecting more information about permissible activities during Level 4 – something which the DA and other political parties have been clamouring for. Religious groups are also looking for exemptions.
Issues regarding the resumption of schools, the reopening of businesses, and the classification of essential services are all likely to be confronted: The government released this statement earlier today:
“Ministers who serve in the National Command Council will through the Economic Cluster give a detailed media briefing to further elaborate on the socio-economic relief interventions and the strengthening of the economic performance under the current conditions. Ministers will brief from GCIS Auditorium in Hatfield.”

When, and what time, will ministers address South Africa?
Strap yourselves in for a 14:00 start on Tuesday. Although Ramaphosa’s national addresses take place later in the evening, the National Command Centre have the go-ahead to make their announcements a little earlier. We are not expecting any delays or hiccups, but of course, circumstances may change between now and the scheduled start time.
