DStv prices have increased: This is what you’re paying from April onwards
Well, at least we’ll be getting our money’s worth during lockdown. DStv prices for the next 12 months have been set in stone, after wholesale increases came into effect on Wednesday. The new rates will see subscribers pay slightly more on most packages, whereas two services are offering a “pay-freeze”.
Which DStv packages are now more expensive?
In total, Premium and Compact Plus customers will now have to fork out R120 more for the year ahead, and Access clients will now have to pay R60 more for access to the broadcaster. The Family package sees the biggest individual rise, in terms of both its monthly amount and percentage increase (it’ll be cost R140 more over the next 12 months).
The hikes are by no means extortionate, but no-one really enjoys paying more for a service they’ve already been forking-out for. Here’s how the prices will work out for the rest of 2020:
DStv price increases for 2020
Package | Cost in 2019 | Cost in 2020 | Increase in % |
DStv Premium | R809 | R819 | 1.23% |
DStv Compact Plus | R519 | R529 | 1.9% |
DStv Compact | R399 | R399 | 0% |
DStv Family | R265 | R279 | 5.2% |
DStv Access | R105 | R110 | 3.8% |
DStv Easyview | R29 | R29 | 0% |
Access fee | R95 | R100 | 5.2% |
A streaming service is being developed by the network
The news comes as developments on “DStv dishless” were shared in February. Their first-ever decoderless offering from is still in its testing stage. It was announced at the end of last year that the company would push to put the service on the market “by the end of 2020’s first quarter” – but it would seem coronavirus has put paid to those plans for now.
Punters on restricted services are at least getting more “bang for their buck” during the coronavirus pandemic. Some channels reserved for Premium subscribers – including several news networks and children’s entertainment specialists Nickelodeon – have been made free-to-view for the immediate future.
