Credo Mutwa: Renowned SA author passes on, aged 98

Celebrated African author and traditional healer, Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa passed away on Wednesday morning, aged 98.

Mutwa is renowned for his efforts in preserving African culture, mostly through literature. He is also revered for accurate predictions of world events, including the 1976 Soweto uprisings, Chris Hani’s assasination and, more recently, the United States’ conflict with Iran.

Mutwa wrote several books in his lifetime, the first – Indaba, My Children – published in 1960, with his most recent – Woman of Four Paths: The Strange Story of a Black Woman in South Africa – released in 2007.

He was also the recipient of a number of awards, including the Usiba award presented by the South African Department of Arts and Culture.
