Gauteng pupil kidnapped, R5 million ransom demanded

A grade eight pupil from Queens High School in Gauteng, who was kidnapped on Monday afternoon while waiting for transport, is allegedly being held for ransom.

The Gauteng Education Department (GED) confirmed that the pupil had been snatched near the front gates of the school while waiting for his lift.

Spokesperson for the GED, Steve Mabona, confirmed that police were investigating the kidnapping as a matter of urgency.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old grade eight pupil from Lantern School in the Gauteng’s West Rand was also reported missing. According to initial reports, the pupil was due to be picked up by her parents.

No confirmation relating to the 15-year-old pupil’s whereabouts has been released and police were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
