AfriForum accused of trying to “assassinate” Panyaza Lesufi

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has made a series of strong claims against AfriForum this weekend, blaing the lobby group for several acts of intimidation against him and his family. The politician has even claimed the outfit are trying to assassinate him – much the the chargrin of their senior figures.

Speaking at a media briefing on Sunday, Lesufi went off-script in detailing just how badly he thinks AfriForum are treating him. The group have launched an online petition to unseat the MEC, disagreeing with him on key educational matters and his determination to “decolonise” schools across Gauteng.

AfriForum react to “assassination” claims

During a tense exchange, Panyaza Lesufi said that AfriForum were trying to assassinate him. He suggested they were hacking his bank accounts and harassing his family, using some of their agents. It’s an accusation that has infuriated Head of Policy Ernst Roets, and we can now expect a defamation suit to be filed:

Even AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel weighed into the madness of it all, denying any involvement whatsoever with the claims of illegal activity. He did, rather smugly, suggest that AfriForum would be going after Lesufi’s bank account to settle these allegedly-defamatory claims.

Lesufi questions Springboks support

Panyaza Lesufi has also questioned AfriForum’s response to the Springboks’ World Cup triumph earlier this month. He says the group failed to congratulate the team, due to their own “divisive agendas”.

“Just show me a statement where AfriForum congratulate the Springboks for winning the World Cup. You will not do so, because some of the players in that squad don’t advance their agenda. They will not bother because they believe quota systems have been used to exclude white players. We won’t be their victims.”
