UDM member buried in his beloved Mercedes-Benz

Eastern Cape businessman Tshekede Pitso was granted a rather bizarre wish by his family, who buried him in his beloved car over the weekend.

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) is a well-known man in Jozana, near Sterkspruit and was rather fond of his prized Mercedes-Benz sedan.

So much so that he told his family to bury him in it once he passes.

The family seems to have carried out that special instruction, as the car was towed to the gravesite on the day of his burial.

The funeral could have been attended by one high-profile guest in the form of UDM leader General Bantu Holomisa, who said he could not show up after a COVID-19 scare.

Holomisa had been in contact with African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) duo Rev. Kenneth Meshoe and Steve Swart, who tested positive for the coronavirus after attending a religious meeting in the Free State earlier in the month.

He did, however, send through some well-wishes to Pitso’s family, and thanked him for his contribution to the party.

“Passing of Tshekede Bufton Pitso of Sterkspruit,” Holomisa Tweeted. My condolences to the family, relatives, friends and UDM members. We thank Pitso for everything he did for the UDM. I was on my way to his funeral but Rev Meshoe’s #CoronavirusTest results yesterday changed everything.”

Riding on the highway to heaven

While a man buried in his car is a rather strange occurrence, it’s not the first time such has been reported.

In 2018, a businessman in Nigeria made headlines when he decided to forgo a casket and bought a brand new BMW to bury his father in.

Also in the same year, but in China this time, a viral video of a man being buried in a Hyundai Sonata did the rounds as, like Pitso, he was granted his wish of being buried in his beloved car.
